A new dog is like a new family member. Understandable, that you are excited and cannot wait to welcome him into your home! But first, check these points to see if you have everything prepared for your new best friend:
o Dog bed: The bed should be the size of your dog and grow with him whenever he does. If should be comfortable and keep him warm. You can add a blanket for especially cold days if you’d like.
o Food bowl
o Water bowl
o Fur brush
o Dental cleaning set, dog toothbrush and toothpaste especially for dogs available at pet stores
o Dog shampoo and dog nail trimmer
o Leash
o Poop bags
o Collar or harness
o Carrier if it’s a rather small dog
o Dog food!
o Treats
o Toys, like dog toys, bones, or stuffed animals (Find those at the pet supply store)
If your dog is very young and not used to your house, you might want to make sure to use a baby gate to secure off any areas you do not want your dog to go or where he might harm himself going alone. Examples could be kitchen areas, steep stairs or stairs in general if the dog does not know how to use them yet. Keep small items out of reach for your dog, too.
Lastly, remember: Adopt, don’t shop! It will not only make your life fuller but also make a rescued dog’s life!
